So, hello, everybody.  It’s been forever since I posted here last.  Why haven’t I posted here lately?  Well, there are a lot of reasons.

For one thing, I won’t lie, 2015 was not a very good year for my writing.  Things went slow, I juggled too many projects, and made little progress on any of them.  I had multiple bouts of Writer’s Block, and was depressed about some things in my day to day life.  Ultimately, this put me behind on my drafts further than I’d like.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to do some catching up this year.

Another thing is that I’m really not completely sure what to make of this blog.  At first, I just wanted a repository for my short stories to publish and share them.  Then, I started doing the reflection posts, but ultimately, I just haven’t been enjoying writing them so much lately.  So, yes, I am on hiatus.  I don’t know when I’ll be back, and in what capacity.  But, yes, I am still alive.

I’m hoping to finally finish the rest of Evaira Volume 2 soon, and have those up.  For now, I am reverting to my original vision of this blog – putting up stories when I finish them – no set schedule, I know, not a good idea, but right now, it’s the best way to do this.

As always, a few comments would be appreciated.

Out of a Slump

Yes, I’m trying to get active here again.  You’ve probably noticed I haven’t posted anything here in a while, and I’ve been barely active on Twitter as well.  Unfortunately, I’ve kind of been in a slump with my writing lately.

I thought that taking some time off of the blog will help me get back in the swing of things, and it really hasn’t.  However, things started to pick up last week, I’m getting out of my slump, and I’ve been working on Evaira like crazy.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to post a new one Friday, but I might decide to wait until next Friday.

And I also want to get started on reflection posts again.  I’ve got a couple ideas, and hopefully I’ll be able to get a few of them written out.  Well, next weekend, I’m going to Zenkaikon, so I’m not going to be posting any new reflections until at least the week after.

Also, for you fellow gamers out there, I’m doing a little giveaway on the GOG.com forums.  They’re approaching their 1000th game – if you guess what the game is, I’ll give it to you.  You can check it out here.

So, anyway, just thought I’d post to say that I’m alive, and I’m going to be more active again.  For now, though, White Rakogis, signing off!

New Blog Schedule

Despite trying to get a new short story written for the past few weeks, I haven’t been able to come up with anything. I’ve thought long and hard about it, and realized something: trying to stick to this biweekly story schedule just won’t work with my writing style.

I’ve preached many times about how I feel that I can’t force ideas out, and yet, it’s beginning to feel that by sticking to such a strict schedule, I’m trying to do exactly that – the ideas I’ve come up with in the past few months are either incomplete, or just not good enough – I can’t answer the great question.  Therefore, I’ve decided I will no longer be posting stories on a schedule.  I just can’t keep churning out quality stuff on such a schedule.

Don’t worry, I still plan to post reflections every Monday, and I’ll still post stories and poems on Fridays, just not with any regularity most of the time.  I’ll put them up when they’re done.

However, I do plan to go to a regular schedule in the near future, for soon, I’ll begin posting stories from Evaira volume two.  In light of this schedule change, I’ve decided I will post the first half of volume two weekly for six weeks, starting in October, and the rest sometime in the Spring – that way, there’ll be fewer gaps.

I hope you enjoy my new stories.  If you have anything to say, please comment!  Don’t worry, I don’t bite.

Reflection: A Blogging Vacation

So, yeah, for the past month and a half, I took a blogging vacation, and honestly, I think it was quite helpful.  Sure, I didn’t get as many stories written as I wanted, but I did make some progress on my bigger projects.  Besides, letting the ideas flow without feeling the need to stick to my schedule was sure refreshing.

Let’s face it – sticking to a blogging schedule is tough.  There are times when I just don’t feel quite as inspired to write a new stand-alone short story or reflection post.  That conflicts with one of the most important things a blogger needs to do: post regularly.  Sadly, I was getting a little burned out in late June, hence the fact that my story/poetry posting slowed down a bit, and ultimately, my decision to take a vacation.

Taking a Vacation

So, I’ve decided I’m going to be taking a vacation from blogging for the month of July, and maybe into August a bit.  This will be my last new post for a while.

It’s not easy coming up with posts.  There are lots of interesting ideas I can come up with, but so few that I can really reflect on well enough to make a good post.  And while I keep on writing stories (I couldn’t stop if I tried), I’ve been focusing on a couple bigger projects lately, so I haven’t really written as many short stories and poems as I usually do.  I figure if I take a break from blogging, I can use the time to write more, better stories, without thinking too much about keeping my schedule.

Of course, I’ll still be coming on here.  If you post a comment, I’ll see it, and respond if I have a response.  I do really appreciate comments.  While I do like likes, I would really appreciate it if you commented as well.  If you tell me why you like what you liked, I can use that feedback to write even better stories.

Anyway, don’t worry, I’ll be back in about a month or so.  For now, though, White Rakogis is signing off!

Reflection: Elephant-Written Fiction

DISCLAIMER: The following post is an April Fools Day joke.  Its contents are not to be taken seriously.  Of course, its contents are rather ridiculous too, so if you do find yourself taking it seriously, you should probably seek professional help.

So, I have recently decided to convert my blog into a showcase for works of fiction written by elephants. Sadly, elephant-written fiction doesn’t get as much attention as it should these days, so I’ve decided to do my part to help expand the audience to this often overlooked genre.

If you think elephants can’t write fiction, you are mistaken. I actually know a few elephant writers, and have heard stories about their struggle.

Winter Storm Problems

Bad news – today’s story is delayed.

Unfortunately, my neighborhood was struck by an ice storm, which cut power for a little over a day (I hate power outages). Power’s back now, but my home internet is now down, keeping me from uploading the story (I’m posting this message from the office), which still hasn’t been fully edited thanks to the outage. In any event, I’ve decided to delay today’s story. Though I will likely have it ready, and my internet back sooner, I’ll be posting my story next Friday.

Additionally, there will be no new reflection post on Monday. I really don’t want to do this, especially so soon after taking a week off, but right now, I don’t really have much of a choice.

I’ll still be on Twitter; I can tweet with my phone a lot easier than I can blog (though it’s still a pain), so if you want to get in touch with me, you can do so there.

See you then.
